Storytelling to Prove ROI

You won’t want to miss this presentation, straight from the 2011 ASTD International Conference and Exposition.

You will learn that anecdotal evidence can be used to construct powerful and compelling stories that clearly show the ROI of learning activities.  If we all cranked out widgets on a production line, it would be a snap to measure the impact of what we do.  With leadership development and many “soft skills programs”, it gets much harder to secure the link between developmental activities and specific business outcomes.

The good news is you can confidently use personal observation, case studies and inquisitive techniques to demonstrate the value of learning activities.  If once concerned that t such evidence might seem fluffy or weak, you will be confident. You can learn to craft business stories that are credible, compelling, succinct and emotionally powerful. These learning stories not only engage the listener and illustrate value, but also are more likely to be remembered long after the last PowerPoint on operations metrics.

Presenter Bio

Linda Davis O’Connell has her Masters in Human Resources Management along with 25 years of experience in the trenches serving in various leadership positions including, Recruiting Manager, Human Resources Manager and Director of Learning and Development.  Working primarily in the Information Technology and Financial Services industries, she launched a learning and development department from scratch, designed and managed three leadership development programs, a coaching program, a mentoring program and a remarkably successful leadership forum. She is known for her groundbreaking and acutely relevant programs that address the unprecedented challenges of the 21st century workplace. She founded Learnologie, a company providing learning and development solutions to improve the effectiveness, productivity, engagement and job satisfaction of leaders and professionals. She has her professional coach training from Coach U and a Certified Toastmaster designation from Toastmasters International. Linda is an international conference presenter and frequent professional association speaker.
