Learning Objectives:   Last month we learned about Mediation through a short demonstration of role play, this month we are going to explore the elements of Negotiation and how the two meld together. Learn the basic principles of negotiation as presented in the book Getting To Yes by Ury, Fisher & Patton.

Presenters:

Robert A. “Bob” Berlin, J.D.

As President of The New Decision Management Associates, Inc. Bob has primary responsibility for Mediation, Negotiation, and Arbitration services as well as Lead Trainer. Bob has experience in handling in excess of 4500 civil and family law mediations since 1968. He draws from a background in law, marriage and family therapy, professional coaching and teaching.

Bob is a graduate of the Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University, receiving the LLB (J.D.) in 1963 and was a senior partner in the law firm of Berlin and Hodges, P.C. for 39 years. He served as a Municipal Court Judge for 25 years and has served as a pro hac Judge in three other courts. Bob served in the State House of Representatives and was appointed by the Governor as a member of numerous state panels.

A member of the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon, Bob has served as an adjunct professor at Macon State College, Mercer University, Wesleyan College, Georgia Military College, Middle Georgia College and Central Georgia Technical College. His is an approved Mediator for the United States Postal Service, EEOC, and the FBI.

Carolyn L. Raines

               As Partner of The New Decision Management Associates, Inc. Carolyn is responsible for the operations, management and is a Co-Trainer. A registered Mediator with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, she has mediated large group conflicts on a national level.  She comes to The New DMA from the non-profit sector with expertise in corporate management, institutional performance assessment, behavioral analysis, team building and fund development.

               A graduate of Middle Georgia College she has served as Chief Development Director of Girl Scouts of Middle Georgia and as Volunteer & Fund Development Manager for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of GA & AL, Inc. Carolyn is a DiSC Certified Behavioral Analyst.

Having volunteered on the local level as Board Chair of Girl Scouts of Middle Georgia, she is now a National Operational Volunteer with Girl Scouts of the USA with expertise in Behavioral Analysis, Corporate Management, Performance Assessment, Facilitation and Mediation.

               She currently serves on the Citizen’s Panel Review Board for the Bibb County Juvenile Court.
